When Warner ultimately got shut down in 2003, he was had been playing poorly and was a shell of himself with turnovers both Interceptions and fumbles. His hand was an issue as were concussions.
Frankly, he wasn't healthy and wasn't playable. He sits for a couple of months and is asked to go into a game later in the year and he refuses.
The reality is that sitting him that 2003 season, probably saved his career and he turned down a chance to play when he was healthier.
The other part of this is Kurt Warner was benched 4 times for poor play over 5 seasons.
1) Bulger
2) Manning
3) McCown
4) Leinert
coaches (I think all 4 coached in superbowls?)

NFL is not for long and all of the coaches didn't think Kurt Warner could hold it together. You were not going to win with him at that time and nobody did. His winning percentages for those 5 years was so poor. so is waiting 5 years reasonable in the NFL? His touchdown to interception ratio and fumbles were an issue as well. If you look at the numbers of wins and losses and personal stats, and presented that with no knowledge how great he was from 1999-2001, he most likely wouldn't get a chance to even play.
