Maybe that was the issue with Martz he didn't "see the whole field" meaning consider the entire team. He assembled one of the greatest collections of offensive skill players ever but didn't put nearly as much concern into the other aspects of the team. To McVay's credit Bones and Wade are strong where he is not and he lets them run their groups but like Martz, McVay can get too into lining up his toys in passing game instead of putting as much effort into considering the benefits of a stronger OL or how a more prominent running game can help the team as a whole. It just feels like I am hearing the, "I'm sorry I forgot about the running game" excuse as frequently now as I did back then.
