In my opinion because becoming purely one-dimensional just dooms you. Teams are 3-30 when throwing 50+ times and running 12 or less in a game since 1990. Only one team has ever won a game throwing 55+ times and running 12 or less (1994 Patriots). I actually would rather have had 22 carries for 56 yards. Tampa's D was like horses at the starting gate all day, knowing exactly what was coming and where they needed to go. Shotgun snapping 60+ times is just not going to work for this team.
They were going to catch up passing or crash. They were already doomed. When was the last time a Rams team started out down 21 points, and then every time they scored the other offense answered.
To me this is just all academic.
I know this is just one opinion and I am only offering it as such--just a different vote and opinion.
But. That was not the game to go all academic about proper game balance and so on. They were coming from deep behind against a defense that is great against the run. They were never going to slow that defensive pass rush down---Tampa would know better, it would have been irrelevant. To run into all those run blitzes? To me the whole issue is purely academic.
It was pass and win or fail. That's just what that game was. That's the hand they got dealt.
