Looooong time ago McVay said that the Pats played all year long in man to man, and switched to quarters against the Rams. They filled the gaps in the line and made outside zone running tough.
So the Rams have since the Superbowl been working on concepts that work better against the zones, Goff has been learning how to better read what the D is doing in that regard, and what to do when he sees it.
McVay was convinced the Pats would do what they did all year. But Bellicheck changed up, the Rams weren't ready for it, and that was that. A learning experience for sure.
If the Panthers truly try that, then the Rams are going to see quarters and zone on the back end and a lot of single gapping up front. By now, they ought to know what to do against it.
