I can't agree with that.
I what you are saying is that a team will always have some positions that aren't as strong and need to be in a rebuilding process … well, yes, I can go along with that. It broke my heart to see Saffold go, but I understood that we can't pay everybody.
But we are rolling the dice with really long odds and a pretty seriously undeveloped plan. I don't understand why we can't have picked up a couple of journeyman vets who could be counted on to give us some adequacy. Do you really believe that Coleman Shelton is the best available option out there?
I don't believe we had to go into this season with this little backing up unproven talent, and there was no reason at all not to give NB and Allen some run in the PS.
If there was NO reason at all to not give NB and Allen some run then our head coach is an idiot since he lacks a reason to do what he did. Yeah, I don't agree with your statement.
I think the issue here is, what do you value: experience or talent?
It sounds like you feel more secure with experience. Personally I don't. If the journeyman lacks talent I'd rather go with youth.
Journeyman with talent are expensive. That's likely why they didn't sign one of those types.
So our choices were probably between inexpensive journeyman - i.e. ones that lack talent - versus talented youth drafted with premium picks and 2 years of coaching invested into them.
Give me the latter choice any day of the week. I understand if you'd still rather go the experience route but it's a tough choice either way.
