Waterfield, the issue is why did the AAV of qb 2nd contracts jump from 28 M in 2018 to Wentz at 32 M.
The answer, I think, is that Wentz's deal does not really begin until 2021. In 2021, qbs will be getting more than 30 M.
Some I've read have even suggested that to get the real AAV you add the current contract to the extension then divide by 6 years. But I've read reporters whose job it is to write on NFL contracts say that you don't do it that way. Each contract is a separate entity. So the extension, which starts in 2021, is 4 years at 128 M which is 32 M AAV.
