Edwards may or may not be able to play multiple positions on the offensive line. He is a 5th rounder so he obviously has a bunch of question marks. What does seem likely is that he makes the team as a backup and will fight with Demby and Evans to be game eligible as the 1st and 2nd backup.
I think Edwards is more interesting than that. For one thing he played hurt in 2018, and that dropped his stock. Gurus and suchlike folk were rating him much higher before the season. In fact the Rams themselves said that in order to get a clear picture of him they went back to 2017 film.
And besides even if he fell to 5th due to playing hurt, 5th round OL (and lower) have succeeded in the NFL. Doug Smith and then later Gruttadauria were UDFAs. So was Andy McCollum. John Sullivan (who had good years before he wore out last year) was a 6th rounder. That means not one of the 4 different starting superbowl centers for the Rams was drafted higher than round 6. Tom Nutten and Adam Timmerman were 7th rounders. Other notable Rams OL drafted in the 5th round or lower include Rich Saul, Fred MIller, and Duvall Love.
And either way, as I said, Edwards was ranked higher before the season, based on his 2017 play, but then played 2018 hurt. I saw multiple pre-season draft rankings that placed him in the top 50 players for the 2019 draft. In terms of pure positional rankings, PFF had him among the top 5 OTs.
None of which guarantees anything, but, I think Edwards is being undersold a bit.
