This I will bet on--Rapp will not be a linebacker. He's a safety. It wastes a good safety to put him at LB. Rapp has superlative skills for safety, why waste those. Plus he's not even as big as Barron was. They moved Barron to LB because he lacked the very kinds of skills at safety Rapp has in abundance.
They made no move to supplant Kiser from the MIKE spot (which is basically a 2-down role) and so odds are they like him and he plays there. Littleton is the MO or coverage LB, taking Barron's place.
Rapp supposedly plays faster than the 4.7 he ran . . . but sometimes that could be one of those things people say. A 4.7 is a 4.7 because he knows where he's supposed to go. So eventually he may take Weddle's spot, but if Johnson and Weddle are the safeties then Rapp cannot play there.
So, if is plays as a rookie it would only be in passing situations...unless he plays LBer.
I don't put stock in people saying anything for sure...I put a post up for discussion and I even forgot about Coleman. But I don't buy fans saying "He won't do this" or "I bet on that".
okay, maybe, maybe not. I will wait and see.
This is just what I think about Rapp. He's a safety. He would not only be wasted at LB, he would be killed there...he doesn't have the frame for it. Either way, the Rams tend not to play as much base D as they do nickel and dime sets anyway so he will see the field. He essentially takes the place of Christian and Countess as nickel safeties. Those 2 guys had a big chunk of snaps last year.
I do buy fans saying players will do things, or will not do things--either way--because we are all just expressing different views of the situation. You express one version of that, I express another version of that. Same thing. The more the merrier. And again I agree on Gaines starting. So there's one version of fans saying something that will or will not happen, that we agree on.
Of course we might both be wrong about everything, cause a lot can happen between now and then. But anyway this is just how it looks to me at this point. I think Rapp sees the field a lot as a nickel safety.
If I'm wrong about that, I will do a thousand push-ups. Maybe not all at once...........
