I mean, if Long's a CB that defends passes so well...I'd think would get significant playing time...right?
I would think so. And if he plays well in support/relief of the starters then we'll see more hidden gems of PFF ratings.
However, there are so many college players that post crazy stats that seem implausible....and are the highest rated for any player in the draft....
then, that player doesn't get drafted. So, what to make of that?!!
PFF/analytic stats are helpful, at times, but with any stat context matters greatly...nuthin happens in a vacuum. Maybe it's just about finding the best grouping of analytics/stats for a position that really give insight to the future performance of a player. I think the NFL is still trying to figure that out about various analytics (Moneyball styled PFF systems).
Great part is that we will see in the case of Long AND Henderson & others...
if there's fire under all that PFF/analytic smoke.
I guess it depends on how one defines significant playing time. Who is he gonna play in front of? Talib? Peters? NRC?
I seriously doubt that so he'll be starting as a backup no matter how good he was in college. I expect that eventually he'll be a starter but not this year.
On the metrics thing, did you have any specific college players in mind that posted crazy stats, that were the highest rated by someone but then didn't get drafted?
