I need him to play better against elite defenses
I worry that against the best teams he does not play his best
The exception? The Saints in three games against them under McVay he has absolutely eaten them alive.
The Bears and Eagles IMO are going to be the Rams biggest challenge in 19'
He has a lot of room for improvement when it come to improvising and the play breaks down, recognizing coverages more quickly, and being clutch
Right now IMO hes not a top 10 QB... And he absolutely should be given the system he operates in and the talent surrounding him
This is a critical year for him in terms of his development
Chargers (ranked 9th). Goff: qb rating 123.1
Vikings (ranked 4th). Goff: qb rating 158.3
Lions (ranked 10th). Goff: qb rating 68.6
Bears (ranked 3rd). Goff qb rating 19.1
Cowboys (ranked 7th). Goff qb rating 74.4
That's 5 games, and they won 4 of them.
So how conclusive is that?
I would say that Goff needs to be more consistently good against top 10 defenses. But the numbers also don't show him being consistently bad against them either.
But there's also this. The only real problem in those 5 games was the one they lost, and in that game. Goff was not alone in faltering. Against the Bears the OL and running game were subpar too.
