The difference with Gurley is that he DID require surgery and it was major. Of course that will make his knee more vulnerable to inflammation-as you can well imagine having a tear that did not require surgery.
My point was that Gurley could have been dealing with another kind of problem like a knee sprain or a small meniscus tear that allowed him to practice during the week and feel like he could play, but each week it just didn't hold up in live action.
