He looked hurt, even with over 100 yards against Dallas Gurley was not the same. He seemed slower and less efficient, not quite getting everything out of each run like he did in the first half of the year. I was certain the awkward tackle on the side line caused or aggrivated the issue. I was very concerned the second I saw that tackle and the fact he wasn’t used much that game only made me certain about what I saw. I don’t recall off hand the game, but he wasn’t much during any game thereafter. The Rams offense suffered after the loss of Kupp, but was still very good. It suffered greatly for awhile after Gurley was injured. The extent of the injury was always a question and still is unknown; is it something that will mend over the season? Will he need surgury? Is it a clean up or major surgury that will take a lot longer to repair? Apparently the doctors didn’t believe using it would make it worse or he would have been kept out completely. That gives me hope. I was impressed by his performance against Dallas, although the line blew some huge holes open. It appeared to me that most running backs would have produced for the Rams that day. But the performance gave me hope that the rest helped him out. I am certain that McVay was covering for it publicly, but his play callling and use of Gurley said otherwise. I am certain that Bellicheat saw right through the public pronouncements, it was quite obvious he was injured and playing at much less than 100%. I don’t understand how McVay thought this was the right way to go. It’s the damn Super Bowl and adjustments and sacrifices need to be made. That included not playing or even dressing a player who was not up to par. A decoy can only work so long. Too bad we were not wrong and he had been playing opossum, because they needed him big time for that game. Hope he has a full recovery.
CJ could be leveraging this info for a contract, but he did enough for this team to leverage one. Making it public would not help him get more leverage. The Rams know the truth and so does CJ. It’s more likely that telling the public is a way of defending Gurley’s performance over the last part of the year. Whatever was the case Gurley gutted it out.
