Let's assume for a moment that CJ is somewhat better at running to the middle than Gurley.
So what.
Gurley is still good at it.
The Rams are first in the league running to the middle, with Gurley running the ball 6 times as much as CJ.
And Benoit does not say the mild thing you assign to him. He is much harsher (and wrong)
He says

He is saying that Gurley is a better back for what the Rams do. In general. Overall.
Which strikes me as preposterous for this reason---surely if that were even remotely true, then, the Rams coaches could design plays where GURLEY is the better fit? And of course since they obviously COULD do that, why WOULDN'T they?
Since it makes no sense to say they would be like that, the more likely explanation is that Benoit is making the typical mistake of downplaying the effect of an injury.
Cause if it's not that, it means the Rams are actually running Gurley in an offense that does not suit him as well, and then NOT designing one that fits him better. I find that unlikely in the extreme.
