In my opinion Barron, Suh and Brockers went from C- in the regulars season to
B+/A- in the playoffs.
It seems like Brockers and Barron won't keep up with the B+ level of play for an entire season.
Barron is very talent, tough and has some great instincts and change of direction, but we can't keep them all.
a) So, I would
keep Brockers....-----though it isn't so hard to replace a 5 tech guy in a 3-4, he is a foundational guy and very, very tough.
b) Even if we win the super bowl, and it is because Barron did special stuff, I think it is time to
cut Mark because of health, $9 mill salary and we need to re-scheme the ILB position with a athletic 235 lber, anyway.
c) If Suh wanted a $7 mill salary with $5 mill in incentives (based on playoffs),
then I would like to keep him. Not happening, I know.
History tells us that the Rams getting back to the bowl is soooo hard anyway--add to that:
a) Whitworth's health at age 38--can he platoon with Noteboom? NO way Whit makes it the entire year. I can't believe he made it this year! And, center position must change (Blythe?). Allen is too small for RG.
2 changes on the O line is huge.b) If Barron comes back, health will be an issue; ...we will lose his coverage if he leaves.
c) Talib and Peters as starters don't look so good to me in man covereage. I expect teams to test them differently next year.
The plus that Rams have next year:
*Goff gets a lil better
*Kupp coming back; and J Reynolds can give some guys some blows--we are so predictable
running the same guys all the time with the same patterns.
*J Kelly wll give Gurley a lot of quality blows next year...no way CJ comes back
* I think we sign a tough SS and move JJ to FS.
* We need to develop a burner behind Cooks. If Cooks goes down, the entire offense collapses; Goff and Cooks are the most valuable skill guys that scare the D. Yes, Gurly is great, but we can do with J Kelly or CJ.....for a few games. Without Cooks, ALL the coverages change.
