And THAT is where the insanity of this discussion lies: Everybody ASSUMES the Saints would have scored a TD right there or the Saints would have been able to run the clock down

I haven't read anyone who assumes they would have scored but YES they could have run the clock down to 4 seconds then kicked the winning FG. There's no qualifier to that. Yes that was possible.

There is no "insanity" to this discussion. It's all perfectly reasonable. For example, the poster above who feels the play is a black eye. Are you going to honestly tell him he is "insane"? He;s a fellow Rams fan and stalwart board regular.

And if the situation happened in reverse you can bet that most Rams fans would agree. In fact it would be defying the simple and obvious psychology of fandom if they DIDN'T.

It amounts to this I think. Rams fans have to live with the flack around the non-call. (And contrary to one common myth, no it's not just Saints fans.) My own view is that the PI was not the only non-call and the Saints had plenty of chances to win. But regardless if I believe that, I haven't met anyone yet who will listen to it. AND again if this happened to the Rams, you can bet that most Rams fans wouldn't listen to that either. So. We have to live with this. One day the McVay Rams will do enough to decrease the significance of it, but it's never going to go away. All football fans will always know what "the non-call" means just like they already know what "the immaculate reception" means and what "the tuck rule" means.

...

You got me wrong ( or I was not clear enough)
The insanity is that everything on from the non called face mask is pure speculation and hypothesis.
But when we are talking game changing ref decisions we must take the face mask into consideration.
So we should leave the speculation out and just look what really happened:
A clear cut holding with hands to the face and maybe even a tipped ball followed by PI.
In the best case offsetting penalties and still 3rd down.
Who knows what would happened then!?
Everything was possible, td saints, td rams, turnover, field goal etcetc.

The Saints should look at that video and then say if that was illegal hands to the face or not, IMO it is at least as clear as the PI.
So much talk about fairness and fair play, how the saints got robbed and even talk about THE biggest umpiring mistake ecpvet in sports ( yes, on one of those you tube videos that was said) .
Sean Payton should watch the video and set things straight if he is such a fighter for fairness and integrity as he claims to be.
Very unfair to the Rams franchise and players what is happening in the media. Saints and Peyton could end that insane witch hunt.
Go rams!

Payton the rat would never do that...he needs this to deflect the horrible choke job he pulled off.

I would like the head of officiating though to come out with this video and admit there were other missed fouls on this play by the Saints that would have made for offsetting penalties at beat.

Also admit to the missed face mask call on Goff...... that missed call changes the entire dynamics of the game after that point.....it would have altered the space time continuum

Simply come out and say our refs made a decision in that game early that they were gonna let the players decide the outcome and not the refs.

Btw, The Saints first penalty in the game didn't come until 5 minutes left in the 3rd qtr.

I've lost a ton of respect for Payton and some of his players.
