And THAT is where the insanity of this discussion lies: Everybody ASSUMES the Saints would have scored a TD right there or the Saints would have been able to run the clock down
I haven't read anyone who assumes they would have scored but YES they could have run the clock down to 4 seconds then kicked the winning FG. There's no qualifier to that. Yes that was possible.
There is no "insanity" to this discussion. It's all perfectly reasonable. For example, the poster above who feels the play is a black eye. Are you going to honestly tell him he is "insane"? He;s a fellow Rams fan and stalwart board regular.
And if the situation happened in reverse (that is if the same kind of crucial non-call happened to the Rams) you can bet that most Rams fans would complain too. In fact it would be defying the simple and obvious psychology of fandom if they DIDN'T.
It amounts to this I think. Rams fans have to live with the flack around the non-call. (And contrary to one common myth, no it's not just Saints fans.) My own view is that the PI was not the only non-call and the Saints had plenty of chances to win. But regardless if I believe that, I haven't met anyone yet who will listen to it. AND again if this happened to the Rams, you can bet that most Rams fans wouldn't listen to that either. So. We have to live with this. One day the McVay Rams will do enough to decrease the significance of it, but it's never going to go away. All football fans will always know what "the non-call" means just like they already know what "the immaculate reception" means and what "the tuck rule" means.
