just based on what happened...he threw on 1st down and the incomplete
stopped the clock. So, we CAN mindread that 1st down play....with them already in easy FG position...
he passed it.....foregoing any idea of milking the clock. NO ONE thot Payton would do that and Aikman/Buck really questioned that reasoning right away. My point is, that Payton wanted a TD...not a FG...and said so to Brees. I now agree with you that we cannot mindread what
never happened - whether he woulda passed or run the clock on ensuing downs....but Payton stated what he wanted to do and demonstrated that by passing on 1st & 3rd down. iirc
All I'm saying is no one will ever know what Payton woulda called if he got the PI...and that's what I agree with you about.
He may have passed all 3x or run it all 3x...but we'll never know and so it cannot be taken as a "for sure' he woulda run out the clock. We just disagree on aspects of the "sureness" of the play calls many think that Payton
woulda called the game had the PI been called.
(like the other SB where Carroll passed it from the 1 against the Pats instead of running the ball...and it ended up an INT- sorta unknown)Nuthin is written.
nw...we just see this differently.
