I have seen, because I'm the complainer, a lack of passing in the middle of the field. Passing in the hashes is rare. Most passes are closer to the numbers and outside the numbers.
Part of the issue is not having a big body who can run downfield and take up space by speed and size. Our TE's typcially are catches outside the nubmers...in fact, Everett often lines up wide.
This is my whole point about a real TE.
Goff has shown accuracy in this area and we don't capitalize on it.
Teams have caught on to the lack of use in the middle and are handling us better on the outside. McVay, IMO, does a poor job of using the middle third of the field.
I need comparative percentages for claims like that.
Who throws to the middle a lot, what's a lot, who does it only a little, what is a little.
Comparing Goff to say for example Brady. I chose him because they have similar number of attempts (561 and 579 respectively) and similar completion percentages (64.9 to 65.8) and similar qb ratings (101.1 to 97.7). I won't know what I find till I look.
Out of total attempts, each throws to the middle of the field
Goff 12% of the time
Brady 14.7% of the time.
It's a difference of 14 passes a year or less than one a game.
Are they both low? Compared to whom, and how many of them? Both high? Compared to whom? etc.
...
Where did you get these stats?
Well I had to do the percentages myself but the numbers you need to do that are in espn splits. (It can be tricky though and if you're interested I'll tell you what's tricky and how you work around it).
