Is Goff that level? No it does not appear so. Can he get there? He has the physical skills for sure I don’t know if he has the head to be at that level. At least I haven’t seen it yet. I thought he was on the way and now I have doubts.

In any case, like you have said this coming playoff is big for him. Huge opportunity to take control of the narrative and yes get paid and close any doubt.

I’m pulling for the kid. Go Rams! They will need him if they want to get to the SB this year.

2nd contracts are not a player performance rating system. They don't work that way.

They are governed by one major thing--the going market rate for the player's position the year he is up. That's why Carr gets more than Wilson (25 M v. 22 M). It's not because someone decided that Carr had more clutch wins and good playoff games than Wilson. It's because Carr came up in 2017 and Wilson came up in 2015.

Here's all that happens with a qb 2nd contract. The team goes, do we want this guy or not, and if it's yes, you pay him the market, or someone else will.

Now there is some minor leeway. The annual contract amount is a general target, but some can get a certain percentage more than others, but it's always within the framework of the market.

And NO ONE is going to count every minor detail in judging a young qb. If they want him it's because they believe in him, and if he hasn't come through in the post-season yet, if you want him you assume he will do so for you--you believe in him.

In fact the 2 highest qb 2nd contracts right now are Cousins and Garoppolo. Of the 2 Cousins was in the playoffs once and his team lost. The difference between their 2 contracts is around half a million. The key was just this---SF needed a qb and J G was a free agent and they wanted to keep him rather than start over so they gave him basically the going rate for qb 2nd contracts that year.
