When Goff, McVay, et al look at the tape of those last 2 drives I am quite sure they will look at the execution of each play and see what could have done better. The context of the big 21 point rally won't have any bearing on that analysis.
If McVay thinks that Goff should have gone downfield on that 3rd and 9 play with 5:44 left I bet he says so.
And if McVay thinks Goff should have made different decisions on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down plays of the last drive I bet he says so.
I don't think McVay will temper his evaluation of 'did Jared make the right decision' just because they had come back from a 21 point deficit. The two things have nothing to do with each other: either Goff did the right thing or he didn't.
Personally I think if some our posters wants to do the same thing - evaluate Goff's decision making on a specific set of plays without regard to what happened the first 45 minutes of the game - that evaluation still has merit. All IMO, of course.
On that 3rd and 9 play I mentioned above Goff threw a 2 yard pass to Kupp. Replays seemed to show a receiver open just past the first down marker. When I saw that I thought that Goff should have gone to the other guy (I forget who he was) cuz that would have had a better chance of getting the first down. What did you think?
