like I said trying to blame the offense on this one is comical.
Then it isn't comical because I haven't seen anyone "blame" the loss on the offense or Goff. Just pointed out that they had a chance to win the game and didn't. Regardless of what else happened in the game, the offense deserves criticism for what it did the last two drives. The coach, the QB, the offense. It didn't take advantage of the situation it was in or play to it's potential and those things warrant criticism.
If one fails to do what they are capable of doing when they're trying to do it, isn't that the time to question why?
Whether it's unfair or not, "finishing" when you have a chance to win a game is a part of considering greatness. Having a great 3rd quarter comeback does not excuse one from disappearing in the 4th quarter.
Kinda sounds like blaming the offense to me.... "disappearing in the 4th qtr"
I'd love nothing more than to be unstoppable and not even carry a punter, trust me..... but it's a fantasy to think that they're not gonna have a bad play, throw, call once in awhile.... we punted ONE time? The entire game....if that "warrants criticism" than have at it.
I'm not one to criticize and say things like they didn't take advantage of the situation or we should have won that game even though we were down 35-14 with 1 min left in the first half because the offense choked.....Sorry, I'm not gonna go that route .
It was a bad time to have a bad series, but trying to sale blame on an offense that had almost 500 yards and 35 points , I'm not buying it.
I don't think ignoring the situational results is looking at things correctly though. How one plays during the pressure situations is a big part of analyzing how they played.
And criticism isn't blame.
The offense produced enough overall to win games in general but that doesn't address how the offense did in critical situation in THIS game. Throwing a pick before the half in a 2 minute drill and failing to score in the 4th quarter and plenty of time when the game is tied are both situations that warrant criticism. I don't think anyone here has blamed Goff and the offense for the loss so I think it's perfectly fair to criticize them in situations that warrant it. Perhaps I'm mistaken and if you want to point out where anyone suggested or demanded that they be perfect or were to blame for the loss I'll recant.
You see this is where it gets lost on me....the
situation was that this team was in a big hole down 35-14( and yes the pick was part of the problem) but they never would have been in that situation at the end if the offense didn't play their asses off to get there. I have a hard time really complaining about the one and only three and out...yes it sucked, big time...but not too many teams go entire game without a punt. Critics would have had a much better argument if they crumbled and went on to get blown out after falling behind 35-14 in a place that is easy to get blown out...but for them to fight back and tie it was something not many teams could or would do. It sucks big time that they weren't perfect and went the whole game without a punt, but I'm not gonna be too critical if they happen to punt once the whole game. I understand the criticism but don't think it's something to really worry about considering how clutch this team has been the entire year....it would be great to never lose, but it's hard to do in the NFL....
I think that's what is lost on some of us. Why in the same game and coming off of 3 scoring drives where they looked unstoppable did the offense suddenly just deflate? Maybe it is unfair to hold them to the standard they, themselves set, but who else should they be compared to? The offense clearly illustrated in the first and second half the ability to dictate the flow of the game on offense. So, either New Orleans did something to change that or the Rams offense let down at times.
The latter is what's being criticized by me and others because that's what I feel happened. I don't feel like the Saints started doing things differently, I feel like the Rams lost focus and let up and played below their ability.
