Here is my view of the trade:
1. The Rams are in a win now mode
2. We have a need an outside pass rusher
3. Fowler has great talent and decent production: He can help us now
4. He is potentially a long term solution
5. If he signs elsewhere after the season he will probable generate a comp pick in the 3 -5th round
6. Rams are good a developing talent and Fowler fits that profile.
I really like what Snead did. He got the lottery ticket from an upside perspective. He probably has a good chance to resign Fowler on a bet on yourself and make it big deal 1 year deal. If Fowler blows it up this year he we got the production and will get a 3rd comp pick when he signs a be FA contract. We have invested in some young guys for longer term such as OBO, Lawyer and Young but they aren't giving us much as rookies.
I think the downside is not to bad and he may make us better come playoffs. I like the trade a lot.
