He's not just another guy. That's why 4 teams were bidding for him.
He has elite talent and elite athleticism. But he doesn't play elite. He plays pretty good for an edge rusher; we didn't have a pretty good edge rusher. Now we do and our 2 inside guys are going to make his edge rush even better.

If he has the mentality, Phillips and McVay will get the best out of him. And they'll know in 8 games (plus playoffs) if this is a guy worth paying to stay or not. A comp pick 3rd rounder and a late 5th in 2020 is hardly a large price to pay for an edge rusher.

As for Obo: I just don't think McVay believes they can get much from him this year. It's like he said: in-season practice is about game day game plan installation. Not learning how to play the position. And as far as we are into the season, Obo is simply not going to practice with the 1s or get special attention, because that time is so precious. And the acquisition of Fowler has made Obo's chance of ever seeing the field more distant.

Obo may not be activated at all. And if they do, who do they let go? It's one thing to let someone go for Fowler, a healthy experienced young vet. It's quite another
to let someone go for a rookie who has not been able to hone his skill and hasn't played a down this year even in preseason.
