Mistakes, misreads, can and will happen. Teams lose games they 'should win' and make games closer than they 'ought' to be all the time. I judge a head coach on the preparation, attitude, performance, and discipline of the players. On all accounts, McVay is one of the top head coaches in the league right now. That's why I don't understand the need to go back and break down certain situations and point out perceived shortcomings with the coach / playcalling.
When the team was losing under previous regimes - looking to find all the ways the organization failed was therapeutic, in a way - I'll give you that. But if we beat Arizona by only one point this year - I won't question it. Even if we lose (and we are bound to lose some) I won't be looking to sound the alarm. I like to look at football seasons in sum, and importantly - how the season ends. Even though I was disappointed by the loss to Atlanta I thought the season was a success because is ended with a playoff game.
With the right coach and QB you have a shot every year. How many SB's have the Saints and Packers been in the last 5 years? But this is a good time to be a fan of those teams. Just as I hope this will be a good 5-10 year run with Goff and McVay. Every season - hope. That's more than Jeff or the other HC's gave us.
