As I said I think it was called that way in the first place. Tempo is something you have to practice so you do it in unison. I don't think a qb can just say in the huddle "let's do it faster" and expect cohesive results. I just don't see it as the kind of thing they can improvise as a unit. McV is famous for varying tempos on plays and odds are good that is how they practiced it and that is what McV called.
