Just to be clear, losing Whit and Saffold is not MY plan.
I just put it out there in case Suh just blows it up this year. And makes our D overwhelmingly dominant. So far, he has not done that, but he might yet be capable of that as this DL gels.
As such, he would justify unusual moves to accommodate his salary demands. Demands that I’m assuming would include another “really want to play here” discount, btw.
It’s just a matter of time with Whit, anyway. Remember how his play kinda slipped in the second half of last season? Well, he’s now 1 year older. Will the trend continue? And get worse in ‘19? Besides, Boom looks like a capable replacement for a fraction of the cap hit.
As to Saffold? Many have already speculated that he might be a cap casualty, even if we don’t keep Suh. We already have a couple of quality starting OG’s not named Saffold, so they provide options.
Look, I wish that we could keep everybody every year, but that’s impossible. S&M must weigh all the pros and cons and then make their decision.
All I’m suggesting is that IF they should deem Suh a transcendental player and part of their core group, at least there are a few options available.
Snead has proven adept at finding secondary players for 6 years running which probably makes Joyner expendable.
Well, Snead and Kromer now seem quite capable of finding OL players, too. Why shouldn’t that make Saffold expendable, too, if absolutely necessary?
Like I said before, our roster has become so loaded that tough decisions are inevitable.
