In a separate thread Sun Tzu pointed out that the potential loss of Suh and Joyner might result in 3rd and 4th round comp picks in 2020.
The more I see, the more I think that is an integral part of the plan to sustain this team. The key, of course, is to continue to draft well, but if the Rams can let a couple guys play out their contracts and leave each year, and then replace them with guys already on the roster or by trade or with non-qualifying FAs then the train just keeps on rolling.
Notice that the FAs they signed (Shields & Suh) were both released by their former team rather than guys that played out their contract and left. Guys that are released are
not part of the compensation formula. Only guys that finish their contract and leave are considered ...
Right now the Rams are projected to get two 3rd round picks and a 7th rounder in the 2019 draft for Watkins, TruJo, and Cody Davis because they didn't sign any qualifying FAs to offset their loss!!. [

And keep in mind, comp picks can be traded. Bundle them and move up and/or trade them for established players. And the beat goes on (hopefully).
