I am sure I can very, very wrong. However.....a lil bit more
But the whole thing about Seattle is macho stuff and making it happen---and when someone doesn't the LOB decided to take matters into their own hands as judge; this is the team mindset...worked for them. HOwever, I don't think that Jared Goff is any tougher than R Wilson---and Goff would need some protection form the LOB, too as a rookie. BUt Goff is not WIlson---Goff is respected because he shuts up, gives credit and is a good friend--like going to Whitworth's kids baseball game..... Russ opens himself up to stuff because he doesn't have that thing going for him. So, Russ is attacked different than J Goff would be or Drew Brees or TOm Brady. Brady would attack Sherman, I am sure, and no one would dare approach Favre if he threw 5 interceptions---even Dick Sherman would stay away. But, Petey steps in because he knows the whole team dynamic, and knows that hte has to, or else Russ would capsize....(so, I say, lol)
I am 5'10", 180 and if Dick Sherman came at me talking junk, like he might do to Russy, I would attack him physically---lol, you have to be willing to lose some fights. That has been my response most of my life as a manager, and it has always worked....though I went the hospital once
[maybe that is why I live in Europe, lol]
You have to back up you thing....and Sherman always could...and he put that on Russy because that was the team dynamic as agreed by the defense. BY THE WAY, this is the same ting the 1983-1990 Bears had....they loved McMahon and so he was one of the boys. Russ HAS NEVER been one of the boys....you gotta read between the lines with his clothes, talk, business talk and all that crap that he does....
My brother hung out in the Colts locker rooms in the 1975-78 era during training camps....much of where I am 'going' with this is based on stories he has told me. Everyone earns respect in their own way, and I think Dick Sherman would talk to Goff in one way, and Wilson in another. He talks to Wilson the way he did because he saw how fragile he 'must' be because of Petey's protection. Russ looks tough, but Sherman knows better, and tests that. SHerman is for the 'team' and is aggressing Russy to prove a team point---in part; and that point is 'if you suck, and aren't accountable for it, we need for you to improve'. Some QBs could handle that, some couldn't.
