Of course they'd be mistakes. And I guarantee you every one of those team's fans and local media will look in hindsight and say they spent their cap money in the wrong place if they don't make the Superbowl.
The same will happen with Donald because of the block buster level of the contract for the position of DT. Along with that money comes nearly unfair expectations not only for himself but for the team.
I'm not condemning any of it.
I'm saying that in business, including sports, when you push all your chips to the center of the table and put your hopes squarely on the shoulder of a Superstar and you lose, you made a bad bet.
Look back at JJ Watt who has not helped his team in going on 3 years due to injury. Would they have been better to spend their money elsewhere knowing what they know now? Of course!!
How about Mario Williams? Even Suh? Did they live up to those blockbuster contracts and help their teams win a Superbowl? It's why both hit the streets.
All i'm saying is this: up to this point Donald has been judged purely on his own numbers/performance. From here on out it will have as much or more to do with the overall results of the team because instead of playing for a modest amount, he was handed the keys to the Brinks truck with the team.....and fans even more.... expecting him to greatly enhance their ability to win a Superbowl.
if that doesn't happen, opinions will shift quickly.
