If the Rams elect not to tag Donald and instead allow him to become a RFA, they would likely lose him because an interested team would likely insert a poison pill provision in the contract making it difficult or impossible for the Rams to match.
The DT cupboard is not bare this year but it may not be full very long if Donald leaves and Suh talking about retiring after 10 years in the league. (This year is 9 for him so he may only play one more year with 2019 being his last.)
He would be tagged long before he got a sniff at RFA.....the RFA is a moot point with Donald.
There is always a team like Cleveland that will overpay for star power and have QB one year into rookie contract
