I think the way McVay appears to most, and I include myself... is a coach with a better appreciation for every single aspect of the game... on the field and off, than we've seen in a long time with most of the other recent coaches.... who were closer to being 'specialists' than overall head coaches... and that this...
will lead to more sustained quality on the field. It doesn't mean McVay WILL do that... it simply means his qualities, if he proves capable and IMHO all indications are that he is, are a better base from which to build than 'specialists' a bit myopic in the manner in which they build, manage, and approach individual games.
I very seriously doubt that McVay can ever hit the NFL with offensive innovation in the way Martz did.... but then I don't think he needs too with his more balanced approach. - JamesJM
