Actually, not much for me to mea culpa about but one thing...
I liked Goff. I saw promise behind a horrendous OL and incompetent coaching staff. Goff was abused. Yet, he got up and continued to make some plays. He just couldn't behind that line and a bunch of pathetic WRs and TEs.
I liked Gurley. I knew he was a beast and all the negative posts were targeted at the wrong guy....it was that pathetic OL and incompetent coaching staff. This he didn't hit the hole stuff was bunk. He didn't he the hole because he was hit 3 yards in the backfield. And I couldn't understand why they didn't throw the ball to him. Complete incompetence.
As for the young OL, I thought they were OK...nothing special...maybe I get a 1/3 mea culpa for these two. I mean they are good...but far from studs.
The thing I love about McVay was he brought in experienced and proven assistants.
I was lukewarm on Woods. I thought he was a big upgrade but honestly I have to admit I never thought he was going to be money in FFB. Add another 1/3 mea culpa for that.
I never doubted Wade Phillips. Ever.
I never ever never ever never ever doubted Aaron Donald. There is no defense out there that he wouldn't excel. He is just that great.
Kupp was my favorite draft pick.
Maybe I get another 1/3 mea culpa on the safeties. But the reality was....I didn't care to comment. I was all about "In Wade We Trust!"
Now...here is the real mea culpa....I did not like the McVay hiring. My reasoning was more of history than his credentials. The history of young coaches success in the league was almost zilch. So...my view was based on the likelihood of a young coach like McVay succeeding based on history. Obviously, he proved me completely wrong.
As for TEs...that question is still open because our TEs were crap last year and we have the same this year...other than there is lots of hope for our sixth rounder who got hurt.
Give me 2 mea culpas.
