The upside is they are saving money now and are using it on other players. The downside is it will probably cost them more to sign him the longer they wait. Another downside is that the Rams aren't creating a healthy environment with Donald and other players are watching.
I agree with all that.
In fact the downside is SO down that to me it outweighs the upside.
Plus they don't really get players on any savings from Donald. The way a deal will probably be done, they convert his 2018 salary into a pro-rated bonus. So in the end they save no money. They spend the same in 2018 either way.
