The Rams told him the 5th or 6th round. How likely is it that the Rams would knowingly tell a player where they are taking him and actually take him at least a round earlier if something didn't change in where they expected him to go. I guess you could say they purposely tell a player a later round and expect his agent to spread that around.
Regardless, I think Snead knew there was a good chance Allen wouldn't be there for their next pick. And Allen was one of a cluster of players they wanted with their first 4th round pick.
In any event, there are a lot of mixed opinions on this pick.
