None of the players I mentioned bring the Rams the ideal age, but Matthews is close. Best case scenario is you get someone who was 21 as a rook, and sign him at 25. You then have him for his peak years, even if you go for a five-year deal -- which brings stability to the line. Whitworth is an exception. While he's no longer at his best, he maintained that into his early thirties, and is still top notch. The guy is a freak as far as longevity in the NFL. Pace and Slater were too.
So, yeah. If they can sign proven O-line guys, within their peak-year windows, that's usually better than rolling the dice with early picks. But they still need to draft 'em too. The line is obviously key. Keep Goff upright, and the offense will score. Keep him healthy, and he's a Ram for another ten years. Same with opening holes for Gurley, etc.
