so like peters why couldnt the colts get a 1 for one of the best rbs in the game coming off his best season?
according to polian..
his agent approached me soon after the season to let me know there was going to be a holdout. Knowing that it was coming and that it wasn’t going to be pleasant and that it would have been devastating for a young team to handle, we decided to see if we could trade Marshall, who was at the peak of his career. We were asking for a one and a two and I inferred that less than a one, with some other combination, would do it. Surprisingly, we didn’t have many takers.source: [

They did get one offer w/ a #1 from Miami but that was within the division.
What Polian doesn't say is that after they traded Marshall they bad-mouthed him a bit and painted him as a me-first player who among other things couldn't run up the middle. The main conduit for a lot of this was Pasquerelli.
And the selfish, me-first player thing did have some truth to it, according to Faulk himself.
It didn't help perceptions that Faulk would not report to the Rams until a deal was signed, so he missed a bit of camp. Zygmunt being Zygmunt, this got bad-mouthed too and so the reporting on Faulk was pretty negative for a bit.
Faulk changed and his press changed too.
But at first he was seen as a selfish player.
