Sure, HC's need to be "smart". But not rocket scientist smart because it's the wrong kind of smart.
Frankly I'm ambivalent about Patricia because I know nothing about him.
It's a whole new world being an HC from being a DC. And in the Pats organization Bellicheck is the King and you do things the King's way. So I don't know how much of what the Pat's do on D is actually Patricia's. Or if it is more like the Rams offense was (is) under McVay; which is why LeFleur was happy to go somewhere else to be an OC. That is; with the Rams he was mostly a facilitator of whatever McVay planned and ordained.
In the end HC is as big a crap shoot as QB. You never know how it's going to turn out. So for me, as regards Patricia and the Lions, it's wait and see.
