I really don't care about run/pass ratios.
What is needed is to be able to run and pass well, and have one open up the other in the sense that Bellicheck's team does it.
That is: if a team clearly is game planning to stop the pass, then be able to run the ball very well.....and vice versa. Put another way: every defense has a weakness so be fully equipped to exploit it. That's what makes the Pats so darn difficult to defend. The team is not so much pass oriented/run oriented as it is fully flexible to do both very well.
Of course, it helps to have Tom Brady at the helm.
But I don't think McVay is, or ought to be, a pass first guy. Rather he wants/needs to run effective plays and have the right players to be able to do that. No doubt, the NFL rules have made passing the ball advantageous for the offense and more difficult for the defense so passing has become more popular.
