And there is a lot of "starters" who aren't

When he's outside of a controlled situation, he will fail.

During the regular season Keenum played in a better structure, he was very rarely stressed and was essentially in every game.

With Minny he had better support and a better defense which didn't ask him to do much other than hold the wheel.

His coordinator did for him what he did for Bradford in 2010, designed a controlled pass game, that didn't ask to much.

If conditions are optimum he can be fine.

But as we saw in the last two games, when he's put under pressure to deliver more than just holding the wheel...its beyond his ability.

Keenum cost himself a lot of money with his playoff performance.

Up until then I believe there were some teams that would have been fooled into believing he was a starter in this league.

He's a back-up.

He is a back-up, but it's not quite that simple. In the right situation he shows a lot of stuff that doesn't reduce to simply managing a game. He has some moxie to him, some ability to improvise, and good instincts. But I have been saying all season that he can't carry a team if they have to pass to win and the other team knows it.

In fact Keenum did not do too badly in 2016 considering the fact the Rams had no running game. He did better in 2015 when they did have a running game.

That's apparently so crucial to Keenum's play that the Vikes were 2nd in rushing attempts and 7th in rushing yards in 2017 in spite of being 23rd in yards per attempt (3.9). That means they just kept pounding the ball and stuck with the run at all times. (Not to mention the defense.)

So from that I assume that in 2016, if they did have a running game, the Rams could have won more games with CK at qb. Actually in 2016 the Rams were 28th in rushing attempts and 31st in rushing yards. So in 2015 his avg. qb rating was 87.7 while in 2016 it was was 76.4.

The guy people are fooled about right now, or so it appears, is Foles.
...

The backup/starter line is as blurred as the good/great/elite line at times...

R.I.P. Nelson aka TonyHunter87 1971 - 2017 far too soon..

Your last words to me: "Your a great guy RFIP. I was very sad when you left the board, and your son, but was glad to see you back. Take care my friend, may God be by your side." 09/09/2017 12:58AM

No Nelson, you were a far better man than I, and I am sure an awesome husband and father as well. I will miss you my friend. -RFIP
