I see the photos every week posted where he is open on this board, but he gets very little results. I think some of it is the way the Rams use him, but I think that maybe he is still not quite back from the injuries the previous year.
Still, I feel if he goes elsewhere he will be a 1000 yard receiver and I think the Rams will lose a little with defenses accounted for him. When you watch games, the opposing team still choses to check him with their best corner even though Kupp and Woods are getting better results and that is one of the reasons Kupp and Woods have success as they are getting covered by 2nd tier CBs versus the pro bowlers on Watkins so there is that value.
I think he has great hands and has caught everything and he is a powerful player with his strength, but maybe his foot injuries have robbed him of his speed and cutting ability. It doesn't help that the Rams don't use him on the short game much which he is so good at.
I would love the Rams to lock him up for another year to take another look. Maybe structure a contract that the big signing bonus isn't until year 2 and the Rams get another year from him, but my guess is Watkins won't accept that kind of contract as it takes 2 to tangle.
