Due to the horrible but temporary Robert Woods injury, Sammy Watkins will either step up and make himself more than worthy of a contract extension from Snead & company after the season ends, or he will be pretty much more of the same as we have watched since the season started.
I clearly understand like many of you that Watkins' production is in many ways predicated on his target volume in McVay's weekly game plans & Goff's vision etc..
Even with the things that have held him back this year, if Sammy is truly an elite WR and wants to make a "pay me" statement in the Rams long term plans, he needs to hit a different gear in these last six games of the season. He likely will be given that opportunity with Robert Woods out the next 2 games.
No more simply blaming McVay or Goff for his lack of targets & touches in the final stretch of the season. Elite players force themselves to be involved and require more targets in the game plan.
I was elated when Snead traded for him and I'm still very happy he's wearing the horns.
For what ever the excuses are about his overall production and fit in McVay's offensive scheme, Watkins needs to force the issue in these last 6 games and make the head coach and quarterback believe he's every bit as good as advertised since he was drafted by the Bills in 2014 as the #4 overall pick in the first round.
The Ball is in your court now Sammy
Sammy can't throw the ball to himself. Goff has to decide if he wants to throw it to him. IMO, Goff sure doesn't seem to look at him as the primary go to type guy he should be. Not sure why.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
