Was the influence beneficial? Was it negative? Or worse? Everyone knows people who are highly influential -- directly and indirectly -- but in destructive ways. And any study of history brings that to the fore as well. Positive and negative, etc. etc.
The HOF, which is a secondary issue here, of course,
should require extraordinarily
positive influence, IMO. To me, that's just common sense.
Regardless, this is a tough topic for a lot of people. I just wish the prevailing orthodoxy would chill and open things up to all views, without the intense anger that, at times, boils over into much worse. No way to bridge divides as long as some folks say "My way or the highway."
