In getting the league where it is today.
..
I know.
Hence the criticism.
Yep. If he's more important in getting the league where it is today, and the league is supposedly a disaster . . . The criticism appears warranted.
That said, I think the whole "sky is falling" narrative being pushed by some is misguided. The NFL is still in excellent shape. And it has quick resolutions for most of what ails it, except for the head trauma part.
That's going to take great deal of work. Some suggestions for fixes:
Go back to Sunday only games.
End the Sunday Ticket monopoly (with Directv), and offer it up to several different media vehicles, including streaming services like Netflix
End the preseason. Go back to 14 games for the regular season
Extend practice time for all teams. Add at least another month.
Simplify free agency. Go to just one designation at five years. Do your five years with your first team, and then you're free. No other designations.
Safety issues: Go to all-grass fields. Penalize all spearing, regardless of who, when or where. Teach shoulder/wrap up tackling. Teach
tackling, instead of "hitting."
Get a lot more serious about all artificial substances that enhance mass, etc. Enforce bans. For safety reasons, these players need to
shrink.
For starters.
The NFL will be fine.
