There's something different about this team. It has a sense of competency and steadiness. No trick plays in order to get a win. No "luck" involved or catching a team when their best player (s) are out. They play solid and they play mostly disciplined. And they seem to get incrementally better game by game.
The two things for which there is no replacement are experience and maturity. The Rams are not experienced winners (let alone playoff contenders). And they are the 2nd youngest team in the league.
There has been no real pressure on them this season; expectations were modest to low. If I recall most initial power rankings had them in the mid-20s and drafting in the top 10. If the Rams were 3-4 right now, nobody would be screaming and in fact wouldn't feel very bad about it. And, the Rams would be on nobody's radar. But with a 5-2 record, the media talking about them as near playoff locks, Gurley having a MVP year, Goff looking the part of a good NFL QB, etc., the Rams are now going into the REAL season where the going gets tougher. The Rams are a team that other teams will be gunning for.
I watched the Seahawks and Giants; not impressed with either side, frankly. How in the world the Giants constantly allowed a Seahawks receiver to get behind them I don't understand. And they clearly had little idea how to mush-rush Wilson. The runs Lacy had were just stupid. The defense was undisciplined and the Giant's offense reminded me of the Rams offense in the Fisher days (run, run, pass, punt).
Clearly a 1-6 record is not bad luck. The Giants are not a good team. Their so-called good defense is 27th in Total Defense allowing 23 ppg, and they are also 27th in Total offense averaging 16 ppg. So the Stats back-up their poor performances. And, as time passes, they don't seem to be getting any better on either side of the ball.
So their win against Denver appears to be an anomaly; not to mention that Denver has been HIGHLY overrated because it is a media favorite.
So by all Stats and results the Rams ought to kick butt.
That is why I say that it is the Rams' focus and attitude that will determine the game not the game plan. The Rams are simply a better team in all 3 units. But if the Rams don't come out with intensity and play a workmanlike game, the Giants are certainly capable of beating them. And while you could say that about any team, a young team like the Rams is much more susceptible to let-downs than the more experienced veteran teams.
