All of my reflexes, conditioned by years of watching the Rams, are with this thread. This is THE definition of a trap game. And, this is the Rams and Giants. We all have the memories and scar tissue to fret like crazy.
But, you know, I am going to resist. I said on Sunday night that the AZ game--not just winning but going to London and blowing them out!--took me personally over a threshold of trust with McV's outfit. I trust him to do what really good coaches do--properly prepare a team for games like this.
In general, McV has the classic, calm demeanor of superb leaders. He doesn't let himself or the team get too high or to deflate under adversity. I don't believe they are running around full of beans and ego. I trust the vet leaders to value winning, that reward that has so long eluded them, and I really trust McV and Wade to bring a prepared team to the Meadowlands.
Then there's the matter of the Bye week. We've endured so many years in which Ram coaches did nothing with bye weeks. Well, I trust McV & Co. to maximize the value of their bye week. I think the team will be humming like a finely tuned dragster engine. They will be ready.
And there is the matter of the road trip. It's clear that A] this team thrives on the focus of road trips and B] McV knows how to organize and gain advantages from them. NY is tough at home of course, but we are really focused on the road.
When I put those intangibles together, I think they neutralize and overcome the "trap game" dynamic. I trust this coach and team to be ready to play. I really do.
And if we are ready to play, the chances are very good that we win. We are a better team, after all.
I trust them. And you know what? I feel comfortable putting my trust in them. They've earned it and I think the risk/reward for being a trusting fan right now is really encouraging.
