I think McVay is about to face his biggest game challenge to date.
I have the Giants down as a win. How can I not? Everything I see says it ought to be a rather straightforward Rams win.
I don't know what the Vegas odds will be, but I'd imagine it will have the Rams as at least 5 point favorites on the road.
And here's where the challenge lies. The Rams players will have had a week off to bask in their newfound success and media adoration. It will be impossible that they don't hear how a lot of sports media says they are a playoff team with a few even saying they ought to be thinking Super Bowl. The Giants have the 3rd worst record in the league. How do the Rams take them seriously?
The problem is that these Rams have NO experience in this type of situation. These guys are new to being winners; new to being media darlings and being universally hailed as one of the top 4 teams in the NFL. Will McVay be able to get them to block out the noise and focus? To remain humble and workmanlike? To fight like mad on every play? Or might they rest on their laurels as have the Falcons and just expect the other team to submit?
This is where an HC really earns his money. Young Coach McVay has his work cut out for him......and it is far more about player attitude than x's and o's this week.
