I just cannot say that we are the "better team." In fact, I don't believe we are at this point.
We have genuine strengths in comparison to SEA. Those are the ones we all know and they are the reasons many of us expect to break through.
But SEA has a defense that has excelled for half a decade. They have a QB who has proven for years that he can compensate for OL issues. And they have the confidence and will that come from years of competitive success. They are probably down a few notches from where they were. But they are a very, very good football team that historically gets stronger as the season goes on.
We have a young, growing QB who, I am sorry, is NOT yet where Wilson is. We have a defense far more suspect than SEA's. We have passing and running assets that may or may not be ready to break through against that tough SEA defense. We have a team culture trying to get used to winning, but without the conviction that comes from winning over years.
This is not doom and gloom. I said yesterday that this Ram team should be "expected" to win that game at home. The opportunity is here and we have, I think, the talent. But my expectation of the team is a sense of what they are responsible to do, not a prediction. IF they are going to break through this year, they need to step up and do it.
But I do not know if they are that good. I certainly do not know if they are a better team than SEA is. I hope so, and think they might be, but I am not in a position to claim it directly.
It isn't real until it is real.
