That it was almost all coaching was very evident to me by the fact that the only hits they did have in the draft were on the D side of the ball where good coaches and scheme were in place.
If the Rams succeed going forward, which I have no doubt they will, that offense will include (or at least presently includes) one carry over from 2010 and at least 5 guys who were drafted from 2015-16. Compare that to Pete Carroll in Seattle. By the time Carroll started winning (in his 3rd year) not one single offensive starter remained from before he was there. For that matter with the Vermeil Rams, in 99 they had a total of 2 starters on offense who were there from before the time he was hired (it's Miller and Bruce...though Conwell was injured in 99).
And since they were young in 2015-16, it's hard to say they "didn't develop."
Now if you just rest on saying that McV and his staff are as a group better coaching offense, I doubt anyone would disagree. But then I also think that's true of McV and his staff v. much of the entire league.

I agree that players drafted in 2015-16 were still developing but neither of the main two players in Goff and Gurley were looking good at all. Now it's night and day.
And we explain that in completely different ways. Neither one of us of course gets to call on the football gods to judge our truth.
But. From what I saw, and from what some key stats show me, Gurley regressed all on his own last year. There are a lot of causes for that, but they include the fact that he himself said he did not start working out in the off-season "for one or two months." In other words, later than usual. And to me he did not look like he had a strong grasp on the offense, which is at least in part because it was basically a new system installed by a first-time coordinator during a move, which, added up, is not a formula for a superbowl run.
And not one single Air Raid college offense qb has ever become a continuing viable starter in the NFL, and they say that's largely because they have so much to learn to become pro qbs. Goff is the first. A near runner-up was Foles, but then that was an illusion fostered by him playing in a qb friendly spread under Kelly. When he had to play in a pro system he melted down. So Goff is the first...which has to do with the fact that he arrived in the league THAT green. In fact I only saw a handful of analysts who said, give him time, he is an Air Raid qb and they don't even know how to call plays yet, let alone read pro defenses etc )and the etc is a long list).
In short. Gurley regressed and Goff was THAT green. Bad combo since a rookie qb needs a strong running game if he is going to play even decent.
McVay has done good things with those guys but Gurley's regression and Goff's greenness are among the many things that made 2016 what it was. To be fair I called Goff's greeness before the season and even before camp, since I knew the history of Air Raid qbs (and still applauded the pick).
If you disagree, okay. We just see it differently.
