Looked like a franchise QB the first 4 games of 2015. Then the wheels came off and you know the rest.
Foles never had the kind of arm talent and for that matter toughness Goff does.
He melted down because he could not make the adaptation jump to a pro style offense.
Even at his best in his first games Foles was more like a somewhat elevated game manager.
Goff has pure throwing talent that ranks him in the conversation with Warner, Bulger, Everett, Ferragamo, and Bradford. And he has the mental toughness to remain in that conversation. Foles at his best was fine but he was not in THAT conversation.
Here's one of the differences, as I see it. When Foles in his first 4 games made impressive longer throws it always had the air of something they had practiced. You see plays like that with Goff too. Like the TD to Watkins when they had 2 guys lined up running short slants on the goal line. You go---they worked on that. But you also see Goff make sweet, perfect throws (with just the right velocity and touch) in improvised situations.
To me the only question is where Goff will end up in the "Rams qb" conversation. One of the best? Among the best? That will come with experience. How much does he progress, how does he handle being smacked around for a whole game, does he bounce back, does he mature in his ability to see defenses, can he be a comeback kid when it's close and winnable in the 4th quarter? Things you can only learn from watching him across a whole season.
