Rare is it that you let one player do both, but he isn't getting the volume of plays as a WR so go ahead and use him.
I will say this thought;
the one thing Fisher did well on offense is the option sweep to Austin or fake to Austin and give it to Gurley. Running that play a few times a game is significant and normally gives Gurley space as the defense has to be concerned about Austin. I know it isn't worth the money Austin is getting, but it is sure nice to have that play executed 3-4 times a game. It works well most of the time.
Austin could have this work load.
Punt Returns
Kickoff Returns
2-3 running plays a game
1-2 screens a game in passing game
and maybe an occasional sneak actual passing reception in a game when defense is taking him for granted and focus on other guys
That is 10-15 touches for a little guy a good days work. If he can deliver a big play every game out of those 10-15 touches, that is good contribution.
